LEGO® Indiana Jones set 7683 - Fight on the Flying Wing
Review by Hall of Bricks
Price: $49.99
Pieces: 376
Purchased at: Target
Purchase date: January 2, 2009
Recommend this set: Yes
Element selection: 3/5
The main reason for the somewhat low ranking in this category is the giant, single-piece wing. This set has a lot of neat elements in rare colors, but the large wing should have been constructed of smaller wing elements which would provide more flexible play. I also don't like how much LEGO® has been relying on decals to complete the models.
Construction: 5/5
This model is well-built and solid. It was fun to build, despite the huge wing. The landing gear are cool and the main canopy flips down with ease. Among the extra elements included were pilot's goggles, a pistol and a couple of 1x1 slopes.
Playability: 5/5
This set gets a high playability ranking because it comes with four minifigures and two vehicles. The Flying Wing is large (23 inches, or 58 centimeters, from wing tip to wing tip) and provides several features like rotating propellor blades, moving rear cannon and the flip-down canopy. The fuel drum on the truck rotates and the truck has an authentic period look, even if it is somewhat simple.
Value: 3/5
To me, what makes the LEGO universe so cool is the interchangeability of all the elements. The large wing in this set could have been made up of many smaller elements, which would be far more useful in future constructions. This set should be priced at $40 rather than $50 because it only comes with 376 pieces.
Overall: 4/5
If it was priced at $40 and the wing was comprised of separate elements, Fight on the Flying Wing would be a 5-star set. As is, although it could have been a better value, it's a very fun, very playable set that is probably a must-have for fans of LEGO Indiana Jones.
